Equilibrium becomes first building in Bucharest to implement digital WasteTracker system

Equilibrium, part of Skanska’s portfolio of office buildings, has become the first building in Bucharest to adopt the innovative WasteTracker system, a digital solution designed to enhance waste management and sustainability. This new system, developed in partnership with the startup WasteTracker, allows tenants to track and measure their waste output before collection, facilitating more accurate ESG reporting and promoting responsible waste management practices.

WasteTracker is a user-friendly tool specifically designed for the real estate sector. It integrates a weighing terminal, which uses employee access cards, with an analytical system to record the weight of waste produced before it is placed in building containers. Tenants have direct access to the data through the system, enabling them to monitor how much waste is generated by their operations and visualize the associated carbon footprint, categorized by waste type.

This system is designed to support tenants in refining their waste management strategies. With detailed analytics at their disposal, tenants can work with WasteTracker to identify key areas for improvement and promote best practices in waste reduction, reuse, and segregation. The WasteTracker solution represents the first such innovation in Europe and is being rolled out across seven Skanska buildings in Central and Eastern Europe, including Equilibrium in Bucharest, Wave in Gdańsk, Brama Miasta in Łódź, and multiple projects in Warsaw and Prague.

“Equilibrium is leading the way in Bucharest by introducing a digital waste monitoring system,” said Tamara Guleryuz, Leasing & Asset Manager at Skanska. “The WasteTracker system, now installed in both Equilibrium buildings, allows us to weigh and track waste before it reaches collection bins. Not only will this help with ESG reporting, but it also offers tenants valuable insights into their waste production, enabling them to take action to improve their practices and ultimately reduce our collective carbon footprint.”

This move aligns with Skanska’s broader commitment to sustainability and innovation in property management across the region.

Homing Properties invests EUR 35 million in luxury villa complex in Pipera

Homing Properties has announced a significant investment of EUR 35 million in the development of a new luxury residential complex, Homing Village, in the northern area of Bucharest. The project, situated in Pipera, will span a total land area of 65,000 sqm and include 140 villas with a total built-up area of 32,000 sqm, along with approximately 600 covered parking spaces.

“Homing Village is set to enhance the housing options in northern Bucharest by introducing luxury, medium-sized villas that remain accessible to buyers. We’ve combined modern architectural design with comprehensive amenities and strategic positioning to ensure that future residents have everything they need,” said Tomas Manjón, co-founder of Homing Properties. “We’ve noticed a continued demand for homes in the upper-middle segment, particularly those with gardens. As such, we’re confident that Homing Village will meet this demand.”

The development boasts a prime location, offering direct access to Pipera Boulevard (formerly Pipera-Tunari) and the Bucharest beltway, with just a 10-minute commute to the city center. The area is in close proximity to several international schools in northern Bucharest and is well connected to the city’s public transportation network, including metro stations.

Homing Village will feature five different villa types, ranging from 3 to 6 bedrooms, each with a private garden and the option to include a swimming pool. The complex will also offer an array of amenities, such as generous green spaces, a multi-sports court, a children’s playground, a fitness center, an event hall, and 24/7 security.

The project is planned to be developed in four phases, with the first phase set for completion in the final quarter of 2026. Homing Village is expected to cater to the growing demand for upscale living spaces in Bucharest, particularly among those seeking homes with private gardens and ample amenities.

Polish retailer SMYK All for Kids expands in Romania with new store in Ploiești

Ploiești, Romania – SMYK All for Kids, the Polish retailer specializing in children’s products, has opened a new store in Shopping City Ploiești, marking its 33rd location in Romania. This new addition is the second store launched by the brand this year.

Covering an area of approximately 400 square meters, the store will be staffed by a team of nine employees, offering a wide range of products for children. SMYK has continued to expand its presence in Romania, catering to the growing demand for quality children’s items.

“Grandparents and other relatives are our primary customers seeking advice from our team when buying products for children. Since they may not be as familiar with the specific needs of the child, they tend to follow trends,” explained Sorin Stancu, General Director of SMYK All for Kids Romania. “This is one of the key reasons we continue to expand in cities like Ploiești, where we are already known and appreciated.”

With this latest opening, SMYK strengthens its foothold in Romania’s retail market, aiming to serve more families with its diverse selection of products designed for children.
