Skanska introduces app-free digital office access at Warsaw’s Studio A

Skanska Commercial Development Europe has introduced a digital access system at its Studio A office building in Warsaw that allows employees, tenants and visitors to enter the property using credentials stored directly in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

The system removes the need for users to download a dedicated building application. Digital access credentials are instead issued through a secured web link and added to the smartphone’s existing wallet, with NFC used for contactless identification at building readers. The approach is intended in part to address corporate IT policies that can restrict employees from installing third-party applications on company devices.

Skanska developed the solution around its StudioApp web platform, which connects the building’s access-control and parking systems with HID’s cloud infrastructure. A local server within Studio A forms part of the system architecture. Administrators can issue credentials using basic user information including name and email address.

The implementation also changes how access can be managed during the lifecycle of an employee, visitor or tenant. Credentials can be distributed digitally rather than issuing physical badges, reducing the administrative steps associated with creating and delivering conventional access cards.

According to HID, Studio A is among the first European projects where web-based provisioning is being used as the standard method of issuing digital credentials across employees, tenants and visitors. Skanska says the system was designed to combine simpler onboarding with corporate requirements concerning security and data protection.

The project reflects the growing integration of building-management technology with consumer smartphone infrastructure. For office landlords, digital credentials potentially reduce dependence on physical cards and dedicated property apps while providing a more centralised way of managing access across increasingly technology-enabled workplaces.
