Poland launches PLN 1bn programme for household energy storage

3 October 2026

Poland is preparing a major expansion of residential energy storage with PLN 1 billion allocated to a new subsidy programme for households producing their own renewable electricity. Applications will open on 20 October 2026 and remain available until 1 October 2027, unless the funding is committed earlier. The programme will be financed through the EU Modernisation Fund.

Support will be available to individual prosumers with renewable micro-installations connected to the electricity network. Funding can cover electricity batteries, heat-storage equipment and hybrid inverters where these are required to integrate storage with the renewable installation. Costs incurred from 1 November 2025 can qualify, allowing some households that have already invested in storage to participate.

Electricity batteries can receive support covering up to 30% of eligible expenditure, subject to PLN 800 per kWh of capacity. The maximum grant is PLN 16,000 for households operating under net billing and PLN 8,000 for those using net metering. Qualifying EU-manufactured equipment can attract an additional incentive, with total assistance reaching as much as PLN 19,000 for a single electricity consumption point.

The scheme places greater emphasis on how household energy systems operate rather than simply subsidising additional equipment. Supported batteries must have at least 10 kWh of capacity, work with an energy-management system and provide emergency power when the property is disconnected from the electricity network. Battery capacity must also be at least twice the peak capacity of the associated photovoltaic installation.

The new funding follows substantial demand for earlier residential-storage incentives. More than 99,000 applications covering over 900 MWh of household storage capacity have already been submitted through programmes administered by NFOŚiGW. An earlier 2026 programme financed through Poland’s recovery funding attracted more than 11,000 applications seeking over PLN 202 million by the end of April alone.

For Poland’s residential property market, the programme marks a further shift towards energy infrastructure being incorporated directly into individual buildings. Rooftop solar established homes as small electricity producers, while batteries, automated controls and backup systems increasingly allow properties to determine when locally generated power is consumed, stored or supplied to the network.

The PLN 1 billion allocation also forms part of a much larger expansion of storage across Poland’s electricity system. Separate Modernisation Fund support has targeted utility-scale projects, with PLN 4.15 billion allocated for 183 selected storage investments. The combination of grid-scale and household installations indicates that storage is becoming an increasingly important part of Poland’s energy infrastructure, extending from major power projects to individual residential properties.
