Pepco has opened a new distribution centre in Barniewice near Gdańsk, adding a major logistics facility to its Polish supply chain and increasing its capacity to serve the retailer’s store network.
The development is planned to provide approximately 51,000 sqm of space when fully completed. Around 35,000 sqm forms the initial stage, with the facility intended to handle deliveries for approximately 400 Pepco stores.
The location provides Pepco with access to the Tricity transport network and proximity to the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia. This gives the company a logistics base close to two of Poland’s principal maritime gateways while providing road connections for onward distribution to its retail network.
The investment also strengthens the position of the Gdańsk metropolitan area as a location for large-scale distribution operations. The combination of port infrastructure, road connections and access to northern Poland has continued to attract warehouse occupiers requiring both domestic distribution capacity and links with international supply chains.
Environmental performance forms part of the development strategy, with the Barniewice facility planned to achieve BREEAM Excellent certification. The certification target reflects the increasing emphasis placed by major occupiers and developers on energy performance and environmental standards in new logistics properties.
Once expanded to its planned 51,000 sqm, the Barniewice centre will provide Pepco with substantially greater distribution capacity in northern Poland. Its scale, proximity to the Baltic ports and role in supplying around 400 stores make the project a significant addition to both Pepco’s logistics infrastructure and the wider Tricity warehouse market.
