Danish retailer NORMAL has entered the Romanian market with two stores at shopping centres owned by NEPI Rockcastle, extending the chain’s European network into its 14th country.
The first Romanian location opened at Mega Mall in Bucharest on 30 September, followed by a second store at Shopping City Timișoara on 2 October. The openings also represent NORMAL’s first move into the Central and Eastern European region.
NEPI Rockcastle reports gross leasable areas of 311 sqm for the Bucharest unit and 445 sqm in Timișoara. The stores themselves have reported sales areas of approximately 275 sqm and 380 sqm respectively, with each location expected to employ around 18 people.
NORMAL’s format combines personal-care and beauty products with household goods, cleaning products, food and beverages. Its core range contains approximately 3,500 items, while the retailer regularly changes part of its assortment and introduces additional products throughout the year.
Founded in Denmark in 2013, NORMAL has expanded rapidly across Europe and now operates more than 1,000 stores. Romania follows expansion across markets including France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Austria.
Both Romanian stores are located in established regional shopping centres. Mega Mall provides approximately 75,900 sqm of GLA and more than 200 stores in Bucharest, while Shopping City Timișoara comprises around 57,000 sqm. The Timișoara centre’s current tenant directory also confirms NORMAL among its retailers.
The relationship with NEPI Rockcastle could provide NORMAL with a platform for further expansion in the region. NEPI Rockcastle operates shopping centres across several Central and Eastern European markets, although neither company has announced a specific pipeline of additional NORMAL stores within the landlord’s portfolio.
NORMAL had been preparing its Romanian entry for several months. Earlier this year, NEPI Rockcastle confirmed Mega Mall as the chain’s first planned location and indicated that further Romanian stores would follow. The retailer had also established a Romanian legal entity in October 2025 ahead of launching operations.
The arrival of NORMAL adds another international value-oriented retailer to Romania’s expanding retail market and gives NEPI Rockcastle a new tenant that could potentially be rolled out across additional shopping centres if the initial locations perform as expected.
