15,939 Building Permits for Residential Buildings Issued in H1

The number of building permits for residential buildings issued in the first six months of 2026 was 15,939, down 9.6% compared to the same period in 2025, informs the National Institute of Statistics.

According to the INS, decreases were recorded in the West (-429 permits), North-East (-400), South-East (-293), North-West (-282), South-Muntenia (-232) and Center (-147) development regions. Increases were recorded in the South-West Oltenia (+47 permits) and Bucharest-Ilfov (+36) development regions.

In June 2026, 2,960 building permits for residential buildings were issued (+2.7% compared to May 2026), with a total usable area of ​​975,756 sq m (+18.2%). Of the total building permits for residential buildings, 68.7% are for rural areas.

This increase is reflected in the following development regions: South-Muntenia (+52 permits), North-East (+48), North-West (+45) and South-West Oltenia (+7). Decreases were recorded in the following development regions: South-East (-43 permits), Bucharest-Ilfov (-22) and West (-9). The Center region remained at the same level.
