Skanska has secured an additional USD 60 million, approximately SEK 560 million, of construction work from Lee Health for a major healthcare development in Fort Myers, Florida. The new agreement expands the contractor’s existing role on the project and will be recognised in Skanska’s US order intake for the third quarter of 2026.
The latest contract amendment covers further work on the West Bed Tower expansion. Skanska’s responsibilities have been broadened to include completion of interior areas together with the building’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations.
The wider project involves construction of a five-storey hospital providing approximately 38,600 sqm, equivalent to around 416,000 sq ft. The development also includes the supporting central energy plant required for the healthcare complex.
Alongside the hospital, the scheme includes an approximately 11,600 sqm, or 125,000 sq ft, medical office building. An ambulatory surgery centre forms part of this facility, extending the project beyond inpatient hospital capacity to include outpatient medical services.
The additional award demonstrates the continuing scale of investment required for large US healthcare developments, where construction packages can expand as projects move from structural work into technically intensive interior and building-services phases.
Work on the Fort Myers development originally began in June 2024. The construction programme is expected to continue for several more years, with completion currently scheduled for May 2028.
For Skanska, the USD 60 million addition increases the value of its involvement without changing the overall completion timetable. The contract will contribute approximately SEK 560 million to the company’s third-quarter 2026 US construction order bookings.
