Crestyl has used the construction site of its Dornych development in Brno for an unusual public event, suspending a swing between two tower cranes at a height of up to 50 metres. Thirty participants took part on Sunday evening, including Czech MMA fighter Jiří Procházka, while the event attracted spectators around the city-centre site.
The swing was installed between two of the eight cranes currently being used to build Dornych. Czech record organisation Agentura Dobrý den subsequently recognised the 50-metre installation as the highest swing held on an active construction site in the Czech Republic. Organisers believe the height may also be unusual internationally, although no comparable international record system exists to substantiate a world-record claim.
The event took place above one of Brno’s largest current redevelopment projects. Crestyl is transforming the former shopping-centre site next to the city’s main railway station into a mixed-use district with six buildings surrounding approximately 25,000 sqm of publicly accessible space.
Dornych will combine residential, hospitality, office, healthcare, retail and leisure functions. Current plans include 186 rental apartments and a 170-room NYX Hotel Brno, alongside approximately 60,000 sqm of offices, restaurants, shops and services. EUC and Canadian Medical are taking more than 6,000 sqm for healthcare facilities.
Scott.Weber Workspace is also due to establish a flexible-office and coworking centre covering around 5,000 sqm. According to the project plans, it will become the operator’s largest location of this type in the South Moravian region.
The development occupies a strategically important position immediately beside Brno’s main railway station. Beyond replacing the former retail complex, the scheme is intended to create new pedestrian connections between the historic city centre and the planned Southern District, integrating an area previously dominated by a large standalone commercial property more closely into the surrounding urban fabric.
Investment in Dornych exceeds CZK 7bn, with the project also targeting LEED Platinum certification. While the 50-metre swing temporarily turned the active construction site into a public attraction, the scale of the building activity beneath it reflects a much larger transformation of a prominent part of central Brno.
