Romania’s Association of Real Estate Investors (AREI) has appointed Geo Margescu, co-founder and CEO of Forte Partners, as its president, while Doron Klein, Group Deputy CEO of AFI and CEO of AFI Romania, has been elected vice-president. The appointments place two executives from established property development and investment businesses at the head of an organisation representing companies active in Romania’s residential, office, retail and logistics markets.
Margescu will serve a four-year mandate, during which the association intends to focus on matters affecting property investment and urban development. Its stated priorities include improving planning and approval procedures, addressing housing affordability and examining ways to increase participation in property investment and capital markets.
AREI also intends to continue discussions with public authorities on legislation and administrative procedures affecting development projects.
The leadership changes come as Romania’s property industry continues to face questions surrounding development approvals, investment predictability and the availability of housing in major urban centres.
The association represents investors operating across several Romanian cities, including Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Brașov, Timișoara, Constanțan and Craiova. The new appointments may give AREI a more prominent role in discussions between property investors and policymakers, particularly on regulations affecting development activity and long-term investment decisions.
