Former Intercontinental Hotel in Bucharest to be Modernised

3 November 2026

The Grand Hotel Bucharest company has been in a fight for control of the Board of Directors for several years, but a proposal from the last shareholder now comes above any dispute so that the hotel, which has operated since the 1960s under the Intercontinental franchise, is renovated and brought to the highest quality standards in tourism.

Bogdan Dragoi, president of Lion Capital, says that in his opinion, the hotel should be closed for 2 years and completely renovated, because “the current state barely meets the conditions of 5 stars”.

“We are interested in working with the other shareholder because only together can we create this value”, says Bogdan Dragoi, president of Lion Capital, a company that holds 40.19% of the shares of the Grand Hotel Bucharest company.

The proposal is launched to the chairman of the Board of Directors Adamescu, the other major shareholder, who holds 32.90% of the shares.

“No matter how much money it takes, we are willing to put in the effort to enhance this hotel, which is iconic for Bucharest,” Drăgoi added.
