Prague office districts produce record honey harvest as urban biodiversity programmes expand

Urban beehives across two Prague business districts have produced a record 245 kilograms of honey this year, 75% more than the approximately 140 kilograms collected in 2025, according to Passerinvest Group. Eight hives are located across Brumlovka and Nové Roztyly, with their combined population reaching as many as half a million bees during the peak season.

At Brumlovka, hives are positioned at the Alpha, Delta and Philadelphia office buildings, with another location at Roztyly Plaza. The colonies benefit from landscaped parks, rooftop gardens and flowering areas within the developments, as well as the nearby Krčský Forest. The hives are maintained in cooperation with specialists from the Bees on the Roofs initiative.

Companies based in the developments also participate by sponsoring colonies. Alongside Passerinvest, participants include DKV Euro Service, Concentrix, HP Inc Czech Republic, Bechtle direct, the Tereza Maxová Children’s Foundation and Volvo Car Czech Republic. The resulting honey is used for employees and business partners as well as community and charitable activities.

While honey production alone is not a measure of overall biodiversity, the programme illustrates how environmental strategies within commercial property are expanding beyond energy efficiency and emissions. Green roofs, varied planting and landscaped public areas can provide habitats and food sources for pollinators while improving the wider environment around offices and mixed-use developments.
