STRABAG Secures Technical Management Contract for Seven Government Buildings in Berlin

14 October 2026

STRABAG Property and Facility Services (STRABAG PFS) has secured a contract covering seven German federal government properties in Berlin, with a combined floor area exceeding 60,000 sqm. The agreement, awarded by the Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA), expands the company’s involvement in managing public-sector buildings and strengthens its position in Germany’s institutional property services market.

The properties are occupied by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. The portfolio includes an office building on Stresemannstraße, completed in 2011, alongside other administrative premises in the German capital. Under the agreement, the company will oversee technical building operations, including equipment maintenance, regular inspections and responses to system failures, supported by an emergency service available around the clock.

A digital management platform will be used to consolidate information on energy consumption, building equipment, maintenance schedules and technical documentation. The technology is intended to improve oversight of property operations, support maintenance planning and provide more accurate information about the performance of individual buildings. This approach can also help identify inefficient energy use and opportunities to reduce operating expenditure.

The appointment comes as public-sector property owners face increasing pressure to control maintenance costs and improve the environmental performance of their buildings. Government properties also require high levels of operational reliability, particularly where administrative activities depend on uninterrupted access to essential infrastructure. Preventive maintenance, security procedures and established emergency arrangements are therefore important considerations when managing buildings occupied by federal institutions.

The property services provider already works with BImA on several government assignments. According to STRABAG PFS, its existing contracts cover buildings occupied by six federal ministries, alongside other facilities requiring additional operational safeguards. The latest appointment extends this relationship, although the financial value and duration of the agreement have not been disclosed.

The contract illustrates the increasing importance of integrated technical management in institutional real estate, where maintenance, digital monitoring and energy efficiency are becoming more closely connected. For government property owners, coordinating these activities across multiple locations can improve operational oversight while supporting efforts to manage costs and maintain reliable building services.
