A consortium led by Polimex Mostostal has signed a contract with Bechtel Polska worth an estimated PLN 292.17m net for two large assembly facilities supporting the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant in Pomerania. The agreement was signed on 24 September and covers both the design and construction of the buildings.
The consortium consists of Polimex Mostostal together with its subsidiaries Polimex Budownictwo and Polimex Energetyka. The facilities will be developed in the Choczewo municipality as part of the construction infrastructure required for the nuclear project being delivered by Westinghouse and Bechtel.
The two buildings will provide controlled space for preparing and assembling some of the largest components required for the planned AP1000 reactors. Large structural and mechanical sections will be put together close to the nuclear construction site before being moved into their final positions within the power plant.
The scale of the facilities reflects the dimensions of the components involved. According to information released alongside the contract, some assembled elements will weigh more than 1,000 tonnes. The buildings will allow work including assembly, testing and inspection to take place in an enclosed environment before completed components are transferred to the reactor construction area.
Polimex has 1,158 days from signing to complete the contract. The estimated PLN 292.17m remuneration combines fixed and cost-based elements, while the agreement also contains provisions allowing the price to be adjusted under specified circumstances.
The contractor will provide a 24-month quality guarantee, which Bechtel can extend for an additional payment. Polimex is also required to provide a bank guarantee equivalent to 10% of the contract value during construction, falling to 5% during the warranty period. Contractual penalties are limited to 10% of the remuneration.
The agreement brings Polimex directly into the construction supply chain for Poland’s first nuclear power station. More than ten major contracts with Polish companies have been awarded for the project during 2026, with the combined value of agreements involving domestic businesses now exceeding PLN 2.2bn, according to information released in connection with the latest contract.
For the Polish construction sector, the contract represents a substantial specialist industrial assignment connected with one of the country’s largest planned infrastructure investments. The assembly buildings will form part of the temporary production and construction infrastructure needed to deliver the three AP1000 units planned for the Choczewo project.
